Designers, Technicians, and Stage Managers
Updated November 28, 2011
Welcome to Design, Technologies and Management! The 2012 Region III Festival at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is starting to take shape. If you've never been to the U of I's Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, you're in for a treat! We've picked out some fantastic locations for our DTM events, all in the Krannert Center where just about all of the festival events will take place.
A few changes for 2012…
The Allied Design and Technologies Award. A new national-eligible event for students who have completed major design or technology projects in areas including (but not limited to) makeup, projection, properties, millinery, masks, tech, wigs, scenic art, draping & tailoring, technical direction, puppets, special effects, costume craft, audio engineering, etc.
Any student with a project they previously might have entered in the Alcone Makeup Award, the regional TheatreCraft Exhibit, or Prop-A-Palooza should enter their work in this new category. The Allied Craft and Technologies Award recipient will receive national recognition and will be invited to attend USITT courtesy of KCACTF. The Alcone Makeup Award is discontinued.
National KCACTF Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence. All categories of national entries in design now fall under the name National KCACTF Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence. Eligibility is still for students who have completed realized designs for associate or participating productions, and the regional award recipients in each of the four categories will attend the National Festival in April.
The Focal Press/Rafael Jaen Showcase Award. A new regional award to be given to a first-time participant in the Regional Design Projects. Three books from Focal Press will be awarded to a student design with a clear concept or premise, clear dramaturgical or technical research, clear specs or workbooks, or shows innovation in the use of technology, materials, design execution (i.e.: a "green" approach, the use of digital software to facilitate the realization of the design, research on the use of new materials, or an innovative presentation style).
As soon as we can, we will post here all of the info you need to know to register your design, technology and management entries into the DTM Exposition.
Look for updates and registration information over the Region III ListServ in late summer or early fall 2011.
