Format for ALL Exhibits
National Designs, Design Projects, Stage Management, Theatre Crafts and Technology Expo and Faculty Designs
The Region III Exhibit
At the Region III Festival, you will be assigned a 4 foot by 8 foot display board to mount your exhibit. The panel is 2" extruded styrofoam that has been painted white. Because of the layout of the exhibit space, some panels may have slightly less that a 4 foot width.
NO three-dimensional pieces (like props, dressforms or other costume displays) except scenic models will be permitted in front of design panels and NO fabric covering the display panels will be permitted. Music stands will be provided for scenic models (perferably in 1/4 inch scale. Excessively large scenic models may have to be displayed in a separate location to maintain safe paths of egress).
National Stage Management display panels will include a table surface approximately 2 feet deep by 4 feet wide on which prompt books and other visual materials may be placed. Note that this will reduce the display dimensions of the panel itself.
Preparing Your Materials
Before arriving at the Festival, entrants are asked to have already mounted their materials on one to four mat boards (Crescent brand mat board, illustration board, etc, available at art supply or framing stores) each a uniform size of 24 inches by 40 inches. This insures a uniform standard for exhibition and judging. Scenic designers may subsitiute a model for one of the mats boards. Mats can be attached to the Exhibit display panels with steel T-pins, available in fabric stores, craft stores, as well as the craft sections of most Wal-Marts.
The entrant's return address should be on back of each mat.
For design entries, mats must be labeled on the face with a title (indicating the show and what the board is showing), Act and Scene, and entrant's name.
Where possible, the name of the entrant's institution should be omitted from the face of all displays.
As part of the display, each entrant is asked to include a statement of management approach (stage managers) or a statement of the design approach to the production (designers). This should be included on one of the mat boards in a position visually seperate from other materials. Please limit concept statement to one page. (See sample concept statement.)
In placing the require materials on your mats, everyone should be reminded that "process" is the key to a good exhibition. In design, for example, respondents look specifically at how the final design was developed, and how the items the designer shows relate to the text. The relationships between the design, script and concept/approach should be made as clear as possible. Entries should include as much documentation as possible. Here are some basic guidelines with links to specific categories:
Scenic: sketches (at least 3), perspective or photos of the model with a scale figure, floor plans, elevations, color palette for the production, research
