Welcome to the 2012 Region 3 Festival! We've tried our hardest to make sure you don't leave on Sunday thinking there wasn't enough to involve all of those interested in design, tech and management.
This year we welcome a brand new national event. Visit the Allied Design and Technologies Award exhibits on display in the Great Hall foyer. Puppetry, makeup, props, tech direction and costume crafts are just a few of the things you'll see represented.
While you're in the Great Hall foyer, be sure to check out the prompt books on display for the National Stage Management Fellowship. Once again just about 40 students are sharing their methods and techniques with us, showing us why they are the best at what they do.
Head on down to Level 2 to view our two student design events. The Orchestra Rehearsal room is filled with over 150 scenic, lighting, costume and sound designs in both the KCACTF Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence and the Regional Design Projects.
Get a team together for the Tech Olympics on Friday, and catch the Costume Parade during the Evening of Scenes on Wednesday. On Saturday, be sure to see what the Design Storm teams have come up with over the course of the Festival.
We don't want to forget about the hard working faculty and staff in our region! In the main lobby just off the Great Hall, be sure to check out our Faculty and Staff Exhibit. Not only do faculty and staff members in our region volunteer to display their work and write responses to regional projects, they offer many of the DTM workshops listed in your program. Special thanks to the staff at the Krannert Center for developing daily "super workshops" in technology and a series of "rolling workshops" that everyone should feel free to drop in on when they can.
If you really want to learn about design, tech and management we encourage you to sit in on both preliminary and final response rounds of our events. We have a wonderful team of professional respondents whose job it is not just to bestow honors, but to help us all think and grow in our roles as technicians, designers and stage managers.
As outgoing chairs, we would like to thank everyone in Region III for making the last three years so memorable. We're honored to pass such a strong DTM tradition on to Kathleen and Stephen. Thanks, and have a great 2012 Festival!
